Hooded Scarves: For you or for Grandma?

I have been seeing a lot of hooded scarves online. I haven’t seen any “in action” yet, but that’s mainly because it’s still 85 degrees.

Last fall I almost bought a Kasil “Scoodie.” It was a blue and yellow plaid. Here’s a link to a solid orange verision:

I have seen them in action, and am hoping to purchase one this winter.

I must say, done in the right fabric, they complete the look of an outfit. Just think…. Running around town in your new wool cashmere coat, (you didn’t want to buy the one with the hood, cause it made you look like you were still in grade school or Red Riding hood) and you are wondering how you are going to keep your neck and head warm while fighting the winter chill. Placing a tuque/winter hat/beanie (whatever you may call it) over your freshly blown out hair won’t do and I’m sorry but fuzzy ear muffs won’t either. So the simple solution seems to be the Hooded Scarf or Scoodie.

But it all comes down to how it looks (casual or dressy) and how you wear it.

I’m knitting one right now. 🙂 I’m stuck on the back of the hood, though. I’m being kind of ambitious, but will send pics if I’m not completely embarassed by the final product.

Ok, you guys are convincing me. I need to go find one of these in a store and try it on.

I live in Seattle but REFUSE to carry an umbrella and naturally most of my jackets and coats don’t have hoods. Something like this WOULD be practical, but it needs to be attractive.

I had a black hooded scarf that I bought locally and now I have lost it and I loved it because you didin’t need a hooded jacket and it worked great keeping the wind out of your ears. It wasn’t fancy just hooded and I can’t seem to find one anywhere now. I live in Great Falls, Montana and it cold here more often than not. I would really like to purchase another one. Can anyone help?

I own a few of these actually: a white knitted one from Forth and Towne (that failed high-end brand of Gap), a purple jersey, and a pink one. Despite this, I only wear them when it’s really, really cold.
