The other common question

Jimmy and I go to a lot of networking events. Over the past month the question I’ve heard the most is:

“Why is Trendi in Seattle and not New York or L.A.? Seattle’s not really…fashionable.”

Yeah, Seattle is not a hot-spot for new trends. I just walked to Starbucks and saw a 40 year old with a mullet…and not in a punk kind of way, but in a “I have worn a mullet since 1981” kind of way. (Side note: the confusing part for me was I could not tell if it was a guy or girl. Either way the hair was BAD.) People only think about Seattle for Starbucks, Microsoft, the space needle, grunge, and rain.

But what Seattle does have is an amazing pool of smart, talented people with great ideas. These days it doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you can build a great business anywhere with the right people.

Although many days I wish we were building this business from a beach in Mexico, not in gray Seattle. Sigh.

If it’s online, is it real? Where my girls at?
