Networking as a Team

Last night Jimmy and I attended the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest dinner in Bellevue. The event was packed and Jimmy and I divided and conquered our networking. In my opinion, attending large networking events like this one are best handled in a team for the following reasons:

1) You meet more people when you split up and network. We regrouped later about who we met and swapped notes.

2) Occasionally you get caught in a conversation you don’t want to be in and it’s hard to disengage. Easy solution: act like you’re looking through the crowd, pretend to make eye contact with someone and say, “Oh, my coworker is flagging me down. Nice talking to you!”

3) You are always stronger in a team. Jimmy and I have different strengths and can form a great united front when talking to someone of interest.

Overall it was a good event. If you’re in the Seattle area I recommend you check out one of these dinners or other networking events. You’ll never know who you’ll meet! (Like the guy I sat next to who developed a diesel engine that gets 150+mpg…wow.)

Happy Friday!
