Yum. Jewelry.
Have you ever seen a celebrity and they’re, like, crying because they didn’t win a prize at one of the awards shows? And then you hear about the goody bags they get and you want to vomit because they get the COOLEST STUFF?
Well our friend Sheela at Kuukivi has one of her designs in those goody bags and I’m so jealous!
Kuukivi will be among the select group of companies providing products for the 2007 “Everybody Wins at the Emmy Awards” Nominee Gift Bags. Kuukivi’s necklaces were selected exclusively for the gift bags, which will be handed out to the non-winning nominees in the major categories of the Emmy Awards on September 16th, 2007.
I’m jealous that they get to open up goody bags and come across necklaces like this:
($85 on Kuukivi)
Another designer I loooove is Gigi Caron. Wendy, the mastermind behind the line, is one of those women you’d like to take out for drinks and learn from. Wendy has worked at CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and People and if that’s not cool enough for you, her jewelry follows a great theme:
Wendy is strongly influenced by the history of powerful women and the jewelry they wore. She especially loves poison rings and lockets. Each piece in the diamond and 18K matte yellow gold Vivat Regina collection is named for a different queen (Vivat Regina means “Long live the Queen” in Latin). This site includes mini bios of all the queens, so it’s fashionable AND educational. The It Girls pieces take their names and personalities from cool women ranging from kings’ paramours to Swinging ’60s chicks to fabulous family and friends.
Oh, AND she uses conflict-free diamonds. A few of her designs:
Juana Peekaboo Skull Ring, , $7,000.
Victoria Buckle Ring, Gigi Caron, $6,250.

Dekko Earrings, Gigi Caron, $450.
Happy Friday!

Insider Scoop: What the Buyers are Buying
April Star Davis is an amazing jewelry designer that has been featured in InStyle and other fashion magazines numerous times and will be in Lucky in September.
She was showing her designs at an Accessories Show in NYC last week. She let me know what buyers from Anthropologie, Free People, Henri Bendel and writers for Womens Wear Daily and OK! liked the most.
She said 2-tone silver & gold jewelry is a REALLY strong trend. These two items of hers had huge orders and generated a lot of interest. And YOU get to find out about them before they’re shown in stores!
14K gold-filled with hammered sterling silver lotus pendant earrings, about 1-1/4″ long. ($70) Buy here.

14K gold-filled and hammered sterling silver lotus pendant (about 1-1/3″ long) necklace. ($75) Buy here.

Thanks for the inside scoop, April!

Newbies
We’re all aware of the commonly known designers and mass merchandise brands. And honestly, sometimes it gets really boring.
I like to keep my eye on what’s emerging from new designers and wanted to share a few of my favorite finds right now.
I love this blazer by Scott Gibson N.Y.C ($320). The buttons and large pockets make it feel a little retro, but the cut and fabric are modern. PLUS this blazer is made-to-order so it’s uniquely made for YOU. Available at Unsung Designers.

I’ve poked fun of ‘rompers’ in the past and while I still hate the word and the general idea of wearing what is essentially a baby’s onesie made for an adult, something about this one is compelling. I’m not sure if I could wear it, but I like something about it. Maybe it’s the dots? The simplicity of it? This is by Twospace. ($95) Available at Unsung Designers.

I’m sooo over tulip and bubble skirts (actually never bought any) but this aquamarine dress is not really either…just more puffy and random. It’s made by Ena Daro Couture ($200) and is available at Smashing Darling.

And one last thing I love. This Aqua Quartz bracelet by Ornamental Things. ($48) Available at Le Fashionista.

Rock the Runways!
Jimmy and I headed down to Portland on Friday for the Rock the Runways show. We had a FANTASTIC time. Here’s a few pictures from the event.

Me in my IFG shirt.

There was such a variety to the designers that participated and we met amazing people. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Anthony, JJ, and Jessica from IFG for inviting us!

I’m a fan of this, part 2.
I received one of the French Sister’s fans in the mail today and I love it. The fan is a light-weight wood with intricate cut-outs and it’s oh-so-lovely.
Just look at the excited-crazed look in my eyes.

Here’s a close-up of the fan.

And finally, when I said I loved it, I really mean I love it. I don’t think I could pucker up any more.

Thank you, French Sisters! And to my friends out there already thinking of sneaking into my purse and taking this…just DON’T.

Hug a Tree AND Make Mom Cringe
If you’re environmentally conscious, you’re probably going to buy the “I’m not a plastic bag” canvas tote from Whole Foods to pack your groceries in. Some crazed tree-huggers are spending 200x what these bags actually cost and are stampeding each other for them like a pack of raging bulls.
If you’re only sorta environmentally conscious and more interested in buying something that will make your mom cringe, you’ll want to buy the tote on the left.
You can buy it here.

The First
You know how you rarely forget your “first” anything? First speeding ticket, first kiss, first time you tried to dye your hair at home and cried for 4 hours? (Or maybe that’s just something that happened to me.)
Pinar Eris was the first designer I talked to early on at Trendi. She was so bubbly and friendly. She has like 6 million friends on myspace , is involved in fashion projects all over the place, is writing a book, designed a dress that will be immortalized in the Grammy Hall of Fame museum, will be on an upcoming TV show, has had designs in US Weekly and other magazines…this girl is BUSY!
She is in Seattle for a week and she took the time out to grab a cup of coffee with me and chat.
It was great meeting you, Pinar!
Everyone, keep your eye on her. She’s going to make some serious waves in fashion.
